Portugal with the more Michelin Stars in 2022

This year, the edition in which the winners of the Michelin Portugal and Spain 2022 Awards became known, took place in person in Valencia and broadcast from the auditorium of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia. This 2022 election included 1362 restaurants from Portugal, Spain, and the Principality of Andorra, 11 of which with three stars, 40 with two stars, 211 with one star.

Portugal maintains all the previous distinctions, (seven restaurants with two stars, 21 with one star) to which are added 5 new stars conquered this year, thus having 33 awarded restaurants. In the following list, we present all of this year's awardees.

All two-star nominees last year remain the same in 2022.

In those awarded with a Michelin star, we start with the 5 new restaurants:

Al Sud, the new refined restaurant at Palmares Resort in Lagos, by chef Louis Anjos
Cura at the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz in Lisbon by chef Pedro Pena Bastos
Vila Foz by the Hotel Vila Foz in Porto by chef Arnaldo Azevedo
A Ver Tavira in Tavira by chef Luis Brito
Esporão at the Esporão winery of chef Carlos Teixeira, who also won the Michelin Green Star distinction.
This distinction is awarded to restaurants at the forefront of sustainable practices. And the list of novelties ends with the same award (Michelin Green Star) for chef Benoît Sinthon from Il Gallo d'Oro in Funchal, Madeira Island.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides mentioned in relation to the Iberian chefs; "Our inspectors especially enjoyed the preparation of the 2022 selection, due to the gastronomic impulse that the Iberian Peninsula is currently experiencing, and which is confirmed year after year. In Portugal and Spain, and despite the complex situation of 2021, many young talents emerged who defend its innovative and diversified gastronomic concepts with personality. A basic trend prevails in many establishments: that of making the most of local products and traditions".

Fortaleza do Guincho in Cascais with chef Gil Fernandes

Located in a former 17th-century fortress transformed into the Boutique Hotel Forteleza do Guincho, where the breathtaking view over the Atlantic Ocean is in itself reason enough to visit this restaurant. However, it is the extraordinary cuisine with fish and seafood dishes from the Portuguese coast that has allowed it to maintain its star since 2001. 

 

Belcanto in Lisbon by chef José Avillez

Located in Chiado, one of the prime areas of Lisbon. Chef José Avillez reinvented traditional Portuguese cuisine to provide a gastronomic journey with spectacular and unique sensations in each dish.


Il Gallo d’Oro in Funchal, Madeira with Chef Benoit Sinthon

Integrated in The Cliff Bay Hotel in Funchal. With signature cuisine with the refinement of Iberian and Mediterranean cuisine using the highest quality regional products.

 

Ocean in Armação de Pêra with Chef Hans Neuner

 

It is part of the Hotel Vila Vita Parc and is a refined and elegant restaurant with a privileged view over the Atlantic Ocean. It has a unique decoration, with a side of beautiful corals, as well as an entrance of Murano crystals, similar to jellyfish.

 

The Yeatman in Vila Nova de Gaia with Chef Ricardo Costa

It won the first star in its first year of opening, and just a few years later, the second, with all the credit of Chef Ricardo Costa. With the particularity of having an extraordinary and privileged view over the Douro river and the Historic Center of Porto. It has a vast wine list covering all wine regions in Portugal.

 

Feitoria in Lisbon with chef João Rodrigues

It follows the line of the Altis Belém Hotel & Spa, in which it is inserted, paying homage to the Portuguese discoveries, with the decoration of the space and the harmony of the choice of dishes to provide unique experiences of food and wine tasting.


Eleven in Lisbon with chef Joachim Koerper 

Located in one of the most emblematic places in the Capital, surrounded by the green of Parque Eduardo VII, it stands out for its privileged view over Lisbon and the Tagus.

 

Largo do Paço in Amarante with chef Tiago Bonito

Refined and elegant restaurant at the Hotel Casa da Calçada. It highlights traditional Portuguese cuisine with menus ranging from traditional to contemporary, simple and sophisticated.

 

Vila Joya in Albufeira with Chef Dieter Koschina  

Where each dish is a unique creation and an unforgettable tasting experience. With a privileged location for a breathtaking view over the Atlantic.
