A spectacular trio of Ferrari LaFerraris will be presented for auction by Mecum in August 2022.
Ferrari prototypes are usually destroyed after serving their purpose, but sometimes Ferrari puts them up for sale. Since in most cases, it is forbidden to register them for road use, therefore, driving can only be done on private lanes or roads.
Each of these prototypes represents a different stage of LaFerrari's development program, and each is delivered with certification from Ferrari's Ferrari Classiche classic car department to prove its provenance.
The first is an early 2011 test mule, which showcases the chassis and bodywork of a 458 Italia with LaFerrari's V-12 and other equipment.

The second is a 2012 prototype that features the carbon fiber tank and some of the body panels that made it to the LaFerrari. This model also features an early version of the LaFerrari's hybrid configuration.

The third car is a pre-production 2013 prototype, and is nearly identical to the production LaFerrari shown at that year's Geneva International Motor Show. Pre-production prototypes are used for final testing as well as certification and registration. They also allow factory workers to resolve any production issues before the first examples for customers are built.

The LaFerrari is powered by a 6.3-liter V-12 that works in tandem with a KERS-style hybrid setup. Two electric motors are featured, one mounted on the gearbox that assists the engine by sending activation to the rear wheels, and the other used to relieve some of the engine's load by triggering auxiliary devices. The maximum power of the system is 950 hp, which allows a performance from 0-60 ph in less than three seconds.
No estimate has been given on the value of the cars, but judging by past sales it is likely that final bids will easily reach seven figures. Guided by a pre-production LaFerrari prototype sold in 2017 for $2.25 million.
