McLaren launched in 2020 a limited-edition supercar that it called Saber. At the time, due to the bad phase in which the whole world was immersed, this release did not have much impact. In addition to only 15 having been built, exclusively for the North American market.
But despite that, all the cars were sold before they were even built. Now one of those 15 cars will be up for sale at Mecum's auction during Monterey Car Week.
This is the Saber number 11, and it has only been driven 100 miles (160 km). It takes on a silver dotted nude carbon finish with orange accents that are also carried into the interior.
This eye-catching example of this extraordinarily limited production run by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) features McLaren's famous 4.0-litre V-8 biturbo engine - with 824 hp, the Saber is McLaren's most powerful road car to date, without any form. of electrification. Inconel Stealth exhaust system, racing-derived transmission is 7-speed dual clutch. This space-age engine and all other top components in the Saber can reach a top speed of 340 km/h.
It is one of only 15 produced, but in fact it is a genuinely particular design built exactly according to the original owner's particularities, this 2020 McLaren Saber was and remains a true "icon" that will never be duplicated.
Not only is it McLaren's road car, it also represents the application of race-winning technologies and engineering feats already applied to the road, with extraordinarily premeditated style and surprising luxury.
Mecum, responsible for the auction, did not provide an estimate, but the Saber is thought to have originally cost more than $3 million. But if we have as a reference other less rare McLarens that were also sold in auctions with prices between US$ 2.5 million and US$ 3.3 million, this Saber will probably not fall short of these values.
