With around one hundred and fifty nominations for Portugal, in the European gala of the World Travel Awards (WTA), our country won a total of 41 awards (26 European, 15 national) three more than the previous year. Portugal was declared the best European destination for the third consecutive year.
World Travel Awards are awarded since 1993, take place throughout the year in several regional rounds that end with the final gala where the best in the world are awarded. Votes are made online (everyone can vote, but the vote of each registered professional is worth two).
The Oscar for best city break and best cruise port was to Lisbon. Madeira was once again declared the best European island destination. The Algarve has regained the trophy of the best beach destination.
Of the remaining winners, we refer to the most luxurious hotels in the Algarve, Lisbon and Madeira, of which we highlight Vila Vita Parc (best Hotel and Luxury Villas), Conrad Algarve (luxury resort in the lifestyle segment), Quinta do Lago Hotel (best beach resort), Monte Santo Resort (best romantic resort), Quinta da Bela Vista Resort (boutique hotel); the Pestana Porto Santo (best all-inclusive resort), or the 1908 Lisbon (best design hotel). Reid's Palace, where the gala was held, was declared the best hotel in Portugal.
