In the year that marks the 110th anniversary of the Iberian edition, the Michelin stars 2020 gala was held in Seville, Spain on 20 November.
Portugal has won four more Michelin-starred restaurants, including Epur in Lisbon, headed by French chef Vincent Farges (who has already run Fortaleza do Guincho restaurant) and Fifty Seconds, a restaurant that opened a year ago by hand the most awarded chef in the world (with twelve Michelin stars) Martín Berasategui, at Torre Vasco da Gama, also in Lisbon. Chef Diogo Rocha's Lemos Table is located at Quinta de Lemos in Passos de Silgueiros - Viseu. And the Vistas restaurant in Vila Nova da Cacela, Algarve, where Rui Silvestre gets a Star again (he had already earned one at the Bon-Bon restaurant in Carvoeiro).
Chef Rui Paula gets the second star (the first one was in 2016) with his Boa Nova Tea House restaurant in Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos.
Those responsible for the Michelin Guide said that 2020 would be “an exceptional year” for Portuguese and Spanish cuisine, “with growth in all categories” especially in assigning of a star. In passing through the numerous restaurants of both countries, the inspectors of the Guide noted “a solid dynamism in several autonomous communities”, promising that the winners would be distributed “in Iberian geography.”
The Michelin guide has inaugurated in this edition a new category that rewards sustainability. This first edition was won by the Spanish chef Angel Léon, from the Aponiente restaurant in Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz, Spain.
Portugal has 27 Michelin-starred restaurants, seven of which are two-star. We congratulate all the winners.
