Since the beginning of automobile manufacturing, some models of the various prestigious brands have become real icons for enthusiasts around the world. This Mercedes 300 SL Alloy Gullwing is certainly one of those exceptional models.

We are talking specifically about  a very special classic example, Mercedes 300 SL Alloy Gullwing, we would even say a treasure. It was new to Joseph Weckerle, the Mercedes-Benz agent in Casablanca, and was owned for 32 years by Hyatt Cheek, general director of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America National Council and national president of the MBCA.

It is exactly this rare classic example, which will be auctioned by the considered RM Sotheby's held on January 27, 2022 at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. Even though it underwent meticulous restoration work that involved nearly four years of work and cost over 152,000 euros, it retains its original and intact aluminum structure.

O Alloy Gullwing foi um conceito do Chefe de Engenharia da Mercedes-Benz, Dr. Fritz Nallinger, que propôs no início de 1954 fabricarem um SL 300 especial.

It is a model inspired by the Porsche 356 Sl Le Mans Coupe from 1951 with a fantastic aerodynamic design, quickly asserting itself as one of the most distinguished and beautiful cars produced at the time.

The Gullwing's stunning appearance and incredible performance with the track-ready variants made this magnificent car a true winner, with compelling victories in many of the world's top sports car races between 1952 and 1956. 24 hours of Le Mans, Mille Miglia and Liège-Rome-Liège, Carrera Panamericana, as well as several European Rally and SCCA championships.

Only 24 Gullwing coupes were produced in 1955, these had the particularity of having a body exclusively in aluminum and all the cabin windows in Plexiglas, among other changes so that the models had an overall reduction in weight.

Unquestionably one of the most sought after and rarely seen Mercedes-Benz cars in the world, this exceptional classic car goes up for auction with an estimated price ranging between $7,000,000 and $9,000,000 USD.
