The Lorvão monastery is the 18th of the 49 properties registered in the Revive Program, (a joint program of the Ministries of Economy, Finance and Culture, which covers local authorities, coordinated by Turismo de Portugal). In the case of Lorvão monastery, its concession will be for a period of 50 years, awarded to the company Soft Time Unipessoal by Luís Sérgio Aleixo Pita. With an estimated investment of around seven million euros, this hotel is scheduled to start operating in 2024.

In a statement from the office of the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, a little of the history of this property is highlighted: “Implanted in a green valley, the Monastery of Lorvão dates back to the date of the first Christian reconquest of Coimbra, in 878 AD, subsisting, also, medieval architectural elements, such as Romanesque capitals in the chapels of the cloister. In the 10th century, its status and size were already important. In the 16th century, the cloister underwent renovations in the Renaissance style and, subsequently, the entire building complex was the subject of important and continued works of a Baroque character, which gave it the majestic image it currently presents ”.

This architectural complex classified as a national monument in 1910. It was requalified in the 20th century, and housed the Psychiatric Hospital of Lorvão, closed in 2012, for half a century. With the Revive program, the Government intends to “value and recover the heritage without use, reinforce the attractiveness of regional destinations and the development of various regions of Portugal ”.
