The 1955 Jaguar D-Type goes on auction next February 5th at RM Sotheby's Paris.
The seventh D-Type made and left the factory in 1955 directly to Australia, driven by Bib Stillwell, was hugely successful in racing and set some records until 1957 when it was sold. Following an accident during transport the new owner never won a race again.

Later, Frank Gardner bought this magnificent classic car, restored it and put it back in racing conditions. The Jaguar D-Type continued racing even though it changed ownership in the early 1960s, until 1967, when it won the 24 hours of Le Mans and was bought by Formula One driver Richard Attwood and later the 24 hour winner of Le Mans. Mans in 1970 where he raced a Porsche 917.
Over the years, the original 3.4-liter inline six-cylinder engine was replaced with a Jaguar-supplied 3.8-liter inline-six, raising output from 250 horsepower to 300 horsepower. Following a recent service by CKL, it remains ready to drive and enjoy.
