The largest luxury watchmaking event worldwide, the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) “International Haute Horlogerie Salon”, which usually takes place in Geneva, has been canceled due to the current world situation. As an alternative to the physical event, it has become a digital platform, under the name Watches & Wonders 2020. This has even increased the number of luxury brands participating and showcasing their new luxury watch creations. Although this year it is not possible for visitors to experience the examples shown, there is the possibility through the digital platform, to make a virtual visit. And that was how the selection of the most expressive luxury watches for 2020 was made.

The luxury jewelry brand Cartier, which is by far the most representative brand of the event, presented its magnificent Maillon Watch, a women watch with a renewed design and a unique touch in the way in which the hexagonal links are decentralized, as if they had been twisted by a giant force to create an optical illusion. This luxurious watch comes in several versions, some in plain gold and others with diamonds or colored stones. For the men's watch class, it presented a revamped version of the well-known Pasha.

The Piaget brand introduced the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, a conceptual watch in 2018, which is now coming true. It is the thinnest mechanical watch on the market, only 2 mm thick. As it was too thin to be made of gold, the case is made from a recent cobalt-based alloy, 3 times stronger than gold. It is a watch that encourages standards and sets new standards in micro engineering and material innovation.

Another female version, Jaeger-LeCoultre presented a classic but no less beautiful watch called Reverso One Red-Wine. This magnificent watch was created in 1931, making it one of the most durable watch designs. In this new version, the dial is decorated with a layer of bright red lacquer over a sunbeam pattern, surrounded by two rows of diamonds.

This year the Hermesse brand presents the Cape Cod Martelée is a watch inspired by the iconic chaîne d'ancre born in 1991, inspired by marine hardware, with a hammered finish imitating some forged surfaces.

H. Moser & Cie presented the Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Automatic, it has a new design but also a new movement that took five years to develop. As a result, we have the world's first automatic chronograph with a central display and fly back function. Recalling the flowing lines of the first high-speed trains of the 1920s.

The next brand is Vacheron Constantin with his Fiftysix, combining a vintage look from the 50s with a touch of modern. It features a version with a complete calendar showing the phase of the day, date, month and moon on the dial. In another, less complex version, it offers a date window with automatic movement.

The world of luxury watchmaking has made several initiatives at the sporting level with the launch of models alluding to various sports, and Panerai has also followed this path by presenting the Luminor Luna Rossa which has a sample of sail fabric on the dial, used by the Italian team of Luna Rossa candle (origin of the watch's name) that will participate in the America's Cup in 2021. The black case and the texture of the candle cloth offer a distinctive and harmonious combination.
