Lapa is the Costa Rican name for the scarlet macaw, a magnificent bird that you can see during a possible stay. When the founders of Lapa Rios first visited the property, they spotted several macaws flying through the jungle together, creating a red river. Inspired by the beauty of this image, they named the inn Lapa Rios.
